In the Department of Nanomaterials Physicochemistry, work is underway to develop technologies for obtaining various types of nanomaterials for many applications. Research on the preparation and characterization of nanomaterials is carried out using the latest instrumental methods used in the world, such as - transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with elemental analyzer EDX; scanning electron microscopy (SEM); Raman spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, visible and ultraviolet light spectroscopy; atomic absorption; techniques for testing mass changes as a function of temperature and atmosphere changes.

Materials such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, nanoparticles of metals and oxides are obtained and characterized. The properties of materials derived from the above are also examined. Nanomaterials developed at the Department of Nanomaterials Physicochemistry are also examined for their use in environmental protection for the preparation of highly active photocatalysts resistant to poisoning. The new direction of research is the development of technologies for the production of cheap nanomaterials to change the properties of cement mortar in the direction of improving their strength.

In the Department of Nanomaterials Physicochemistry, there are didactic classes in the fields of Nanotechnology and Chemical Technology. There are specialties "Functional Nanomaterials" and "Nanosciences and nanotechnologies", in which students learn about the techniques of creating, researching and ways of using different nanomaterials.

We considered the promotion of nanotechnology in society as well as among young people to be extremely important. We use media for this purpose (Polskie Radio Szczecin, local and national press) and organizational capabilities of the university. The inaugural lecture of the Children's University of Technology DUTEK was prepared and presented by Mrs. prof. Ewa Mijowska. The Department also organizes special classes for children and young people from primary and junior high schools to bring nanotechnology to young people.

The Department of Nanomaterials Physicochemistry conducts research within numerous foreign and domestic grants (NCN and NCBiR competitions).
